This is Art
This is Art.
He is a reflection of what I’ve been seeing on my social media feeds lately. Musicians, actors, and artists are being told they shouldn’t talk about politics, use news headlines in their art or give their opinion of the world. They should shut up and just sing, act or paint pretty things.
Sorry not sorry - I don’t agree.
Some art can be a thing of beauty, a toe tappin’ feel good sing along song, a breathtaking landscape or a realistic portrait; art with the only purpose it has is to make the world a nicer place to live.
But a lot of art is an observation of the times we live in. Hopefully, it will make you think but you don’t have agree with the message. You don’t have to like it.
Most artists or musicians are showing you who they are all along through the art or songs you know and like them for. You shouldn’t be surprised when they actually speak their beliefs. If they are singing or painting about loving one another, are you really surprised when they speak up against social injustice? Maybe you weren’t paying attention.
And I would say 99.9% of them would be making their art if you are looking or not. I know for myself, it’s not a choice.
On occasion, I’m going to make a piece that you might not agree with the statement. That’s okay - just move on, don’t comment or take Cass Elliot’s advice and Make Your Own Kind of Music! ✌️🖖🤘
